TARANAKI COUNTY RATES. WAITARA RIDING COLLECTION. Out of a total of £21.052 16s rates levied by the Taranaki County Council for the year 1934-35, the sum of £17,807 17s Id had been collected up to February 28, the date on which the 10 per cent, penalty was added, reported Mr. R. O. Ellis, treasurer, at yesterday’s meeting of the council. That represented 84.6 per cent, of the total rates levied. Waitara riding showed the best position with £3836 8s 4d levied, £3404 9s 4d, or 89 per cent, collected, and £431 19s outstanding. Then follow: Mangorei riding, £lBlO Ils 4d, £1564 0s Id, 86 per cent., £246 Ils 3d; Omata riding, £1124 18s sd, £929, 83 per cent., £195 18s 3d; Okato riding, £3072 15s lid, '£2516 0s 6d, 82 per cent., £556 15s sd. Of special rates £2931 14s 8d had been levied, £2586 8s lOd, or 87 per cent, had been. collected, leaving £345 5s lOd outstanding. Of hospital rates £3847 10s 6d had been levied, £3228 5s Id, or 84 per cent, had been collected, and £619 5s 5d was outstanding. Of harbour rates £4428 16s lOd had been levied, £3579 13s Id, or 81 per cent., had’ been collected, leaving £849 3s 9d outstanding. The chairman and councillors remarked that the position was not as good as in the Clifton County, where less than 4 per cent, of the rates was outstanding.
