KAPONGA WINS AGAIN

HEAVY DEFEAT OF HAWERA. W. DORMER RETIRES AT 59. Despite a fair score of 139, Hawera was heavily defeated by Kaponga at Kaponga, the home team scoring 209 for seven wickets. Dormer, who retired with 59, Reg. Eden 59 and V. Betts 39, contributed well to the winner’s score, while Des Forges showed a return to form for Hawera by scoring 59. Hawera batted first, and apart from Des Forges, who hit two sixes and six fours, the promising Meuli was the only other double-figure scorer. Des Forges, in making his best score since the beginning of the season, played really well and his sixes off Dormer and Pascoe were great shots. The bowling' honours were well distributed and though Harrison secured the best figures, S. Betts bowled as well as anyone. With a sound opening partnership of 44, Kaponga went from success to success. Reg. Eden hit the bowling all over the field, hitting one six and 11 fours, a total of 50 runs in boundary shots, in a spirited innings. It was one of his best innings of the season. Dormer also batted well, though without the fire of Eden. Exactly 80 runs were hit up in an hour’s play from the opening of the innings, and at 6 p.m., after 96 minutes’ play, 209 runs had been scored. Details are:— HAWERA. PATEA WELL BEATEN OLD BOYS MUCH TOO STRONG. W. BARKER’SCORES WELL. With W. Barker continuing in good form to score 62 not out, Old Boys had little difficulty in beating Patea at Hawera by eight wickets. Patea scored 88 and Old Boys replied with two for 105. Thrush bowled well to take five for 25. Patea batted first and a rattling good score was put up by Jones, whose “placing was very fine. Against Thrush and Sturrock, in most hostile mood, the other; batsmen could do little, though Zimmerman shaped well. Two run outs proved costly. Barker played a fine innings for Old Boys, hitting seven boundaries. He was patient as usual, but all the wiles of the six bowlers tried failed to dislodge him. Duke knew nothing about a good ball from Archer, who, with McKenna, was the best of the bowlers. Details are:— PATEA.
