The true value of physical education lies in the following principles:—(l) That health is fundamental .to full development and is dependent on the proper functioning of the motor apparatus, its work differing in amount, and character according to age and condition; (2) that the full development of Christian character and sturdy manhood and womanhood depends on proper and adequate physical training, especially during youth; (3) that physical and mental differences are recognised in the individual in the various stages of development, which represent important epochs in their lives and in these times arc particularly susceptible to influences potent in the formation of character. Physical training rightly conducted .affords a powerful means of affording them; (4) physical training offers a means for overcoming those subtle and vicious tendencies of modern life developed through idle drifting by providing right and systematic exercise and healthful recreation.
