ROAD BLOCKED FOR DAYS LITTLE ELTHAM DAMAGE ' The continuous 24 hours bf rain at Eltham reached its climax with a tropical deluge at 8 a.m. yesterday. The worst effects in the surrounding countryside were serious slips on ti.e Mangamingi ridge and it is expected that tire road will be blocked for several days. Farmers in the back-country have suffered heavily through hillside slips which have destroyed much fencing. Eltham streets and gutters Were flooded and storm water found great difficulty in finding an outlet. Many depressions in the roadways were full of water which overflowed the roadways in many places. It is believed that the rainfall Was over seven inches for the 24 hours, the recording instruments being flooded. The drains on the Ngaere swamp were taxed and in one place at Rawhitirba only two top’ bars of a 5-bar gate were showing.
