ACCUSED’S REQUEST TO COURT. SHORT SHARP SENTENCE ASKED. By Telegraph—Press Association. » Dunedin, Feb. 19. Edward Gillespie, aged 30, was charged in the Police Court with obtaining £l2 from A. M. Wilson, Christchurch, and £l3 from L. Faigan, Miller’s Flat, by false pretences.
The police said that Gillespie was. a menace to the public and made no effort to keep on the straight path. He had been before the court for eight different offences, including theft and forgery. Gillespie asked for a short, sharp sentence of hard labour, and was given six months’ imprisonment.
