RAIN HAMPERS TOURNAMENT. RESULTS OF GAMES YESTERDAY. Rain, which set in heavily dining the afternoon, prevented much progress being made in the Taranaki croquet tournament, which began at New Plymouth yesterday. The first section of the handicap doubles has been completed, however, and arrangements have been made for good progress to-day. It is hoped to conclude the tournament by Monday.. In the absence of the president, Captain F. L. Hartnell, who is in Australia, the vice-president, Mrs. A. H. Codd, Inglewood, officially opened the tournament, She welcomed visitors and expressed a hope that all taking , part in the play would enjoy the tournament whether they won or lost. Record entries had been received, over 200 players participating in the nine events. The officials were: Referees, Mesdames Walton, Henderson, McKay, Tingey, Langford, Harvey, Lowery, Brown, Chetwin and Hartnell; umpires, Mesdames Burke, Joll„ Broad, McGahey, Lobb, Goss j and Beal. 5 Results yesterday were:— Handicap Doubles.
