BOWLING AT HAWERA

RAIN INTERRUPTS PLAY. CLUB’S SMALL LEAD OVER MANAIA. Manaia and Hawera bowlers played in a game at Hawera yesterday. When most of the rinks still had two or three heads to play heavy rain set in, and when the aggregates were counted Hawera had a lead of two points. The visitors were welcomed by the Hawera president, Mr. D. McCormick, and thanks were returned by Mr. J. Hornby, president of the Manaia Club. Details are:— M. H. The Hawera Bovzling Club recorder (Mr. E. M. Bardsley) supplies results of the competitions in the club:— The championship singles is played in two sections, each entrant having one life in each section. With the exception of the Clarke-Robb game the finals only remain to be played in each section. The finalists in the top section are N. H. Murray and S. Maslin. In the bottom section the final will be played between Murray and the winner of the match F. E. Clarke v. J. C. Robb. N. H. Murray Is the only player to reach the finals in both sections and thus has two lives. Twenty-five games have so far been played in the championship pairs competition, which is divided into two sections. The present position is as follows:—Section A: Drew and Goodchap 2 wins, 2 losses; A. E. Wills and. Herbert, 4 wins, 2 losses; Rudge and Maslin, 2wms 1 loss; Bayley and McCormick, 2 wins, 2 losses; Smart and Robb, 3 wins, 2 losses; Jackson and Marter, no wins, 1 loss; Colclough and Saunders, 1 win, 3 losses; Campbell and M. J. Squire, 2 wins, 1 loss; McDermott and. D. Wills, no wins, 2 losses. Section B: Hodge and Adamson, 2wins, 1 loss; Bardsley and Bull, 2 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss; Veitch and Canning, 1 win, 2 draws, 2 losses; Excell and Egglestone, 1 win, 1 loss; Velvin and Fletcher, 3 wins, 1 loss; Clarke and Foy, 2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss; Lovell and Lovell, 5 losses; Hobbs and Murray, 3 wins, 2 losses; Edwards and Winks, 1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss. The play in the Bisox Cup competition, a sealed handicap singles played in four sections, is not as far forward as it should be and to date 74 games have been played. Competition is very keen in the Bennett and Sutton Cup, a sealed handicap singles for junior players played in one section. With two exceptions only, the 17 entrants have played most of their games. As many as 13 games have been played by one player. In all 69 games have been played. As in the Bisox Cup it is not possible to give any indication of the likely winner as .the handicap, which is sealed, will decide the fate of many games.
