GOVERNMENT STEAMER MATAL
GREAT ACTIVITY ABOARD VESSEL. By Telegraph—Press Association. . Wellington, Last Night The Government steamer Matai, which was to have sailed to-night for Cook Islands, was delayed by heavy rain and is now expected to sail tomorrow morning. There was great activity aboard the vessel to-day when supplies and equipment were being loaded, concrete telegraph poles, timber, food, medical stores being shipped and a large weatherboard deckhouse being erected on the forward welldeck for the accommodation of lepers to be transferred to Mokagai station. _ The Matai will proceed first to Palmerston Island, a week’s steam from Wellington. After calling at the southern islands of the Cook group the Matai will visit the northern islands, going as far as Penrhyn Island. The whole voyage is expected to last five weeks. ,
