HURWORTH PICNIC
DISTRICT PERSONAL ITEMS. j A picnic organised by .the Hurworth branch of the Women’s Division, of the Farmers’ Union was held at the Fitzroy beach on Saturday, and, .despite the wind, proved an enjoyable outing. The children were well catered for in bathing, donkey rides, swings, etc. A peanut hunt and dry bun eating competition created a lot of amusement. During the luncheon adjournment, opportunity was taken to farewell Mrs. F. H. Harrison, Frankley Road, who is leaving to live at Wanganui. The president, Mis. Baker, . voiced the general regret at her departure and presented her with a brass tray. Mrs. Harrison replied. During the afternoon races were held on the wet sand. The following were the winners. Tiny tots: Dorothy Burkitt 1, Diana Farnham 2, Yolande Campbell 3. Junior girls: Ruth Blizzard 1, Dorothy Farnham 2. Boys: Jack Gilbert 1, Trevor Harrison 2, Desmond Harrison 3. Single women: Misses D. Okey 1, N. Gilbert 2, E. Bufkitt 3. Married women: Mesdames King 1, Ross 2, Campbell 3. Running backwards: Irene Salisbury 1, Joyce Campbell 2, Dorothy Farnham 3. Boys: Desmond Harrison 1, Trevor Harrison 2, Jack Gilbert 3. Three legged race, ' girls: Dorothy Farnham and Kathleen Burkitt 1, Irene Salisbury and Joyce Campbell 2, Ruth Blizzard and Loma Campbell 3. Leap frog: Desmond and Trevor Harri? son. Hopping race: Irene Salisbury 1, Dorothy Burkitt 2. Bun eating: Irene Salisbury 1, Yolande Campbell 2. Peanut hunt:—girls: Joyce Campbell 1, Irene Salisbury 2: boys: Monty Farnham 1, Desmond Harrison 2. It has been decided to 'hold the school picnic at Ngamotu on February 26. Mrs. R. Wood, sen. and Mr. and Mrs. R. Wood, jnr. are spending a holiday at Ngamotu Beach. Mr. and Mrs. W. Adlar- motored through to Palmerston North. Mrs. W. Eva, an inmate of the Naw ■ Plymouth Hospital, is making satisfactory progress. Misses. J. Harrison and A. Smith are camping at Oakura.
