FIRE BRIGADE WORK
TEAM FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. HAWERA REPRESENTATION. With a reputation of some significance to uphold, a team comprising Superintendent A. Morrison and Firemen E. Hart, H. Weller, J. Peacock and R. Gates, of the Hawera fire brigade, will leave on Friday to compete in the national fire brigades’ championships to be held at Blenheim. For six months, night and morning, the team has been in rigorous training, and a high standard of fitness and efficiency has been obtained. Owing to the comparatively low pressure of 301 b. for the Hawera household water supply, little practice has been carried out with water, but some fast times have been recorded. At Blenheim, the pressure is expected to be 901 b. at the nozzle. The reputation gained by the Hawera fire brigade has reflected great credit on those participating. The last time a team represented the brigade at a national championship was at Hokitika. Then, Hawera swept the field by gaining seven fine wins.
