FOLK DANCING REVIVAL
INTEREST AT NEW PLYMOUTH.. ’ A number of enthusiasts in folkdancing gathered at “Stradholme,” New Plymouth, last night in the hope, of arousing fresh interest in the of folk-dancing as taught by the English Folk-Dancing Society, London. Mrs. S. Ayckbourn gave a resume of the traditions and associations of the movement, speaking of the great work of Cecil Sharp in searching out an unparalleled collection of English national songs, dances and music. She explained the three types of dances, sword, Morris and country, the first two being exclusively, men’s dances. - It is proposed to form a group at New Plymouth to learn- the country dances for men and. women. The next meeting is to be'held on Monday at- < 'Stradholme.”
