KAPONGA SHOOTING
ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CLUB. SUCCESSFUL SEASON RECORDED. The report presented at the annual meeting of the Kaponga Rifle Club held at Rowan chronicled a very successful season. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed a balance in hand of £6. During the year trophies were won as follows: Championship, J. F. McCarthy; handicap championship, A. E. Brown; Harrison Memorial Cup, A. L’. Brown; season’s aggregate, J. F. McCarthy. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. A. E. Jackson; deputy-pre-sident, Mr. G. R. Smith; secretary, Mr. L. Mellow; executive, Messrs. A. E. Jackson, G. R. Smith, L. Mellow, D. Hollard and R. Dempsey. The opening day was fixed for March 9. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Espiner’s hospitality to the club during the season was the subject of appreciative reference. KAPONGA CROQUET CLUB. FAREWELL GATHERING HELD. A farewell afternoon was held on the Kaponga Croquet Club lawns on Saturday, when members and former members assembled in honour of Mrs. S. C. Knight, who is shortly to leave the district. Mrs. R. E. Williams, club president, presented Mrs. Knight with a Brooch made in the form of a croquet mallet. Mrs. Williams conveyed to Mrs. Knight the best wishes of members and voiced their regret at losing .such an old member of the club. Mrs. Knight responded. Competitions resulted: A golf, Mrs. Williams; B golf, Mrs. N. Gardner; peg hitting, Mis. Evans; angles, Mrs. Evans. Wednesday afternoon last was club day, when competitions were further advanced. Mrs. Dawson won the A grade progressive croquet and Mrs. Gardner the B grade. Mrs. Evans won the A grade break with 12 hoops and Mrs. Lewis the B grade with four hoops. Members are engaged in playing their matches for the Lissaman rose bowl and Lissaman sugar bowl competitions. BOWLING AT KAPONGA. AUROA NARROWLY BEATEN. In a three rinks friendly match on the Kaponga greens on Saturday Auroa was narrowly defeated by Kaponga, the totals being Kaponga 75, Auroa 68. The rinks scores, Kaponga skips mentioned first, were: Hammersley 19, Kilpatrick 30, Tyack 30, Bradford 19, V. Tait 26, Corey 19. In a Courier buttons challenge match the challenging rink, Guy, O’Neill, Cran, Gardner, was defeated by the holder, Honore, Tisdall, Jones, Champtaloup, by 20 points to 18.
