DUMPING IN STREAMS
NEW PLYMOUTH DIFFICULTY. . COUNCIL MAKES DECISION. The Mangaotuku stream from Queen Street to its junction with the Huatoki stream was in a bad condition,, being blocked by debris of all descriptions, stated the engineer and the chief inspector in a joint report to the New Plymouth Borough Council last night. Dumping had probably been done at the back of the business premises fronting Devon Street, though there was no evidence of.rubbish being dumped east of Brougham Street. The report recommended that persons dumping rubbish into the Mangaotuku stream between King Street and Queen Street be notified to cease, doing so and to clear immediately their portion of the stream bed. The council should clear the stream between King Street and the Huatoki stream at once; after which periodical inspections would be made and persons responsible for dumping would be prosecuted. The cost of clearing the stream was estimated at £2O and Inspector Day was authorised to carry out the recommendations in his report
