BIG DAMAGES SOUGHT
ACCIDENT IN CROSSING STREET. JURY’S VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT. By Telegraph--Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A claim for more than £lOOO damages was made in the Supreme Court as a sequel-to-a motor accident that occurred in Anzac Avenue on May 1 of last year. On that date Hector Percy John Shaw, Tauranga, a retired lieutenant-colonel of the Indian Army, was knocked down and severely injured by a motor-car driven by Albert Leslie Bullen. Shaw claimed £BOO general damages and £212 14s for hospital and medical expenses from Bullen. Shaw claimed that the accident was due to the excessive speed of Bullen’s car and other negligence of Bullen, but Bullen denied negligence and alleged that the accident was due to Shaw’s failure to exercise reasonable care in crossing the street.
The jury gave its verdict for the defendant.
