KAIMATA SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. BUILDING TURNED ROUND. The monthly meeting of the Kaimata school committee was held on February 8, present being Messrs. Klenner (chairman), Gibbins, Parker, L. Dobson and Birt (secretary). The chairman welcomed the new headteacher, Mr. W. Metcalf, who has been transferred from Tikorangi. It was decided to commence the work of levelling the grounds. It is expected that unemployed labour will be available for this purpose. It was arranged to hold the school picnic at Ngamotu beach on February 23. It was reported that during the holidays the school building had been turned at right angles to its previous position, thus enabling more sunshine to flood the classrooms. The buildings had been painted inside and outside. On Tuesday afternoon Mesdames Wanklyn, Winter and Judd, representing the Inglewood Plunket Society, visited Kaimata to explain matters concerning a carnival to be held to assist the Plunket funds. The carnival would last for a month. Mrs. Wanklyn explained that over 70 per cent, of the babies attended by the Inglewood Plunket nurse were country babies and it was up to the districts to do their share.

It was decided to' nominate Baby Shiela Bracegirdle to represent Kaimata, the district colour to be lemon.

A committee comprising Mesdames Herlihy, Gibbins, A. Bracegirdle, England, L. Blackbourn, O. Blackboum and Miss Metcalf (secretary) was set up, and it was decided to hold gatherings to raise funds.

Personal Items. Miss M. Lowry, who had been the guest of Mrs. P. Burkhart, Junction Road, returned to Wellington recently. Mr. and Mrs. Moratti have left on a holiday visit to the Rotorua district. Mrs. Coates, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs. N. Bracegirdle. Miss Island has left for Rotorua.
