INTEREST AROUSED
VISIT OF CHAMPION ATHLETES. MEETING AT HAWERA TO-NIGHT. The fact that the British and Finnish athletes will be making their first appearance in New Zealand at Hawera tonight has aroused keen interest in the meeting. A notable attraction will be the meeting ! etween Rampling, the British quarter-mile record-holder, and S. A. Black, the New Zealand record-holder. Black has been showing good form at New Plymouth lately and should make a great showing against his redoubtable opponent. . . The performances of most of the visitors have been reviewed during the last few days, but the following additional items are of interest. Robert M. Craske, a Bank of England official, London, aged 25, was first in the mile at the A.A.A. championships v. Cambridge University meeting in June, 1933, in 4m. 24 4-55., first hi the mile A.A.A. v. Cambridge University meeting, June, 1934, in 4m. 22 2-55., second in his heat of the mile at the Empire Games last year, but unplaced in the final. He is the Territorial Army crosscountry champion (April, 1932), and Bedfordshire County cross-country champion (April, 1934). Mr. Evan A. Hunter, 0.8. E., B.A. (Oxford), London, is the honorary manager of the team. He has been asked to accompany the athletes on their tour of New Zealand. He is secretary of the British Olympic Association, British Empire Games Federation, the Achilles Club, Universities’ Athletic Union and the Dominion Students’ Athletic Union. In 1911 he represented Scotland against Ireland in the 440 yards. He was second in the Scottish A.A.A. 440 yards championship, and when at Edinburgh University won the 100 yards, 220 yards and 440 yards championships.
