SWIMMING LESSONS

FACILITIES AT STRATFORD. INSTRUCTION FOR LEARNERS. No special efforts, apart from confining instruction to learners, have yet been made at Stratford towards organising a learn to swim week, but any such organisation is more or less rendered unnecessary by the unusually good facilities that already exist. Moreover, the adoption of the new hot weather timetable makes the institution of a definite learn to swim period every day of no material advantage because the pupils of the Stratford primary school are now enabled to get more swimming than they would with an ordinary time-table providing learn to swim hours. Under the usual time-table, every class is allotted a specified time each day for swimming and the teacher in each case gives instruction to the pupils. In addition there is a general swim period every day for all classes from noon till 12.30 p.m. With the introduction of the summer time-table of 9 a.m. till 12.30 p.m. the girls are given exclusive use of the baths from 2 p.m. till 3 p.m. every day and the boys from 3 p.m. till 4 p.m. first place boys and girls were admitted together but, in the words of a teacher, “they were packed like sardines and the division was made. "Any child who reaches the upper classes without learning to swim has only himself to blame,” it was said. RADNOR ROAD DISTRICT. GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS.
