ENGLISH WOMEN’S GOOD DISPLAY. SOUTHLAND TEAM OUTCLASSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The English women cricketers played a match against a Southland team today in hot and sunny weather. The visitors won the toss and batted on a good wicket. They treated the spectators to some entertaining cricket, runs coming at a lively pace. A high standard was reached, features being the correct stroke of some of the English players and the clean, smart fielding of the Southland girls. Misses G. Morgan and M. Child opened for England and put on ST before Miss Child was caught She made a stylish 48. Miss Morgan was caught when she had made 41. After the fourth wicket had fallen at 148, Misses J. Partridge and B. Archdale became associated in a bright partnership that carried the score to 235 when the English captain declared. Miss Partridge batted soundly and was unbeaten with the top score of 76. Miss Archdale hit freely and her 45 not -out included the first six of the tour. The Southland girls began confidently but slumped badly at the end of the innings, four wickets falling without any addition to the score. They were all out for 66, Misses M. Gerken 16, E. Chamberlain 13, E. Ferguson 11, I. Dickson 10, E. Bell 10. Miss Partridge’s slows had the Southlanders in trouble and she finished with six for 39. . Southland followed on and at the close of had lost six wickets for 28, Miss E. Be’.ls 14. In her one over Miss G. Morgan took three wickets for four runs.
