EVENTFUL VOYAGE
DETECTIVES VISIT TO SYDNEY. HIS RETURN EMPTY-HANDED. By Telegraph-Press Association. Auckland, Last Night.:;? An Auckland police officer, Detective Brady, who left Auckland by the Aorangi on January 21 en route to Melbourne to escort a prisoner back to Auckland,- returned from Sydney by the Marama this morning. Detective Grady had an interesting and eventful trip, and he was forced to return without his prisoner. On the arrival of the Aorangi at Sydney along with the passengers and crew Detective Brady was placed in quarantine for six days through a passenger by the same vessel developing smallpox early in January. On a complaint made at Auckland a man was arrested at Melbourne on a charge of fraudulently omitting to account for a sum of money, thereby committing theft. Detective Brady, who had charge of the Auckland inquiry, was detailed to proceed to Melbourne to attend the extradition'proceedings against the accused man. However, by the time he was released from quarantine Detective Brady was advised by the Melbourne police that the accused man, who had been released on bail, following his arrest, had absconded and could not be found. It was therefore unnecessary for him to travel to Melbourne.
