EGMONT RACES TO-DAY

CHANCES OF FERSEN AND HAZOOR FINE FIELD IN THE NOLAN CUP ■ ————— 11 ■> TAHURANGI AND ST. CLARA LIKELY (By "Hurry On.”) THOUGH punters were very much astray in their choice at New Plymouth on Saturday, the form of nearly all horses is now exposed, and it would come as no surprise to find the favourites enjoying a good run at the opening of the Egmont Racing Club’s gathering at Hawera to-day. The acceptances are splendid, and the club should have a most successful day. The win and place system of betting and the dividend barometer will be in operation.

PROSPECTS IN FLYING

FULL THROTTLE IN FORM GLEVANE IN THE WHAREROA. WANGANUI FORM INDICATIVE. The racing will commence at 12 noon with the OHAWE HURDLES. Of £lOO. One mile and a-half.

Fresh from his two decisive wins at New Plymouth, March Alone will command much attention here, and his supporters will have to be prepared to accept a short price. Headland made fair showings at Wanganui, his second day’s form being good. Alloy is an unknown quantity as a hurdler and claims two other engagements later in the day. March Alone should again account for Beau Star and Gowanlea, while Colossal has not shown a great deal of promise. Backers are unlikely to look past MARCH ALONE HEADLAND. FLYING HANDICAP. Of £l2O. Seven furlongs. Sanguine King 9 0 Navaho 7 5 British Full Throttle 7 5 Columbia 8 9 Merry Way 7 0 Hurl . 7 13 Hunt the Slipper 7 12 Sanguine King is a good sprinter, but he may be in need of the race. British Columbia failed to run into a place either day at Rotorua. He would need to improve on those showings. Ruri made a splendid showing in the Mimi at New Plymouth, while Hunt the Slipper showed a return to form in the Urenui Handicap. Navaho was third on the second day at Wanganui, but the improving Full Throttle makes more appeal. He won really well on Saturday. Merry Way is a place possibility. The best supported may be FULL THROTTLE HUNT THE SLIPPER RURI. TOKAORA HACK HANDICAP. Of - £lOO. Six furlongs.

Pladie handled his big weight at New Plymouth in good style and was finishing strongly behind Brown Betty. The Ark showed plenty of pace at Wanganui and may finish too solidly for Harvest Moon. Panloff, who ran two capital races at New Plymouth, is definitely improving. Lady Eka showed promise last week, while True Measure may surprise. Chikara ran a good race in the final event at New Plymouth on Saturday and any improvement would make him dangerous. The main fancies may include PANLOFF PLADIE THE ARK. EGMONT CUP. Of £250. One mile and a-quarter.

the list with 9.0. He won the Wanganui Cup a fortnight ago, but never appeared likely in the Taranaki event last Thursday. He usually races well on his own track. Hazoor’s solid finish in the Taranaki Cup is not likely to be forgotten, especially as that race is likely to have improved him. Cherry King’s good gallop at New Plymouth yesterday morning demonstrated that his two efforts last week have not detrimentally affected him. Tiger Gain raced prominently at Wanganui but the improving Fersen should hold him safe. Fersen is an honest game horse who should be running well at the finish. Rust, who ran well at New Plymouth, was second to Passion Fruit at Feilding over this distance, while there was merit in Monanui’s Thames Cup win. Taitoru and Alloy will be at long prices. The favourites may be FERSEN HAZOOR CHERRY KING. JUVENILE HANDICAP. Of £75. Five furlongs.

Lifeguard has plenty of pace over this distance, but his big weight may find him out. Silver Wing’s track work suggests that she is improving. Velocipede and Triune will be bracketed on the machine. Both ran fair races at Rotorua, but Fairfax will only’ require to leave the barrier well to account for both. Eara was a winner at Wanganui, while there was merit in Joy Box’s second to Hororata. Golden Rill is a possibility. The best backed may be FAIRFAX LIFEGUARD SILVER WINGS. NOLAN HACK CUP. Of £175. Eight furlongs and a-half.

Should Pladie start here he would be entitled to respect, but Tahurangi makes more appeal. He was unlucky at New Plymouth on Saturday. Dombey is a fair sort and Diagano and Courtega would only have to stay the distance to be handy at the finish. Lapel won at Trentham, beating a good field, while St. Clara would only have to reproduce her

New Plymouth second day showing to keep them all busy. Bonny Vale was a good third to Palm at Wanganui, and Cereal was fourth in the Mokau at New Plymouth on Saturday. Ingenuity’s consistent form will ensure her of a good following. Of the others Dorado may do best. The race is Very open but the main fancies may be TAHURANGI ST. CLARA LAPEL. WHAREROA HANDICAP. Of £125. Eight furlongs and a-half.

Though Pomp’s showings at New Plymouth disappointed his connections he may do better here, especially should L. G. Morris have the mount. Midian ran a fair race at ‘Wanganui and Chief Marionette was unlucky at New Plymouth. Glenvane. would only have to reproduce his Wanganui form to possess a royal show. If reserved Diagano and Bonnie Vale would carry support. Backers may prefer ' ■ GLENVANE POMP. WAIPAPA HACK HANDICAP. Of £lOO. Seven furlongs. '

Onewhetu finished so solidly behind Full Throttle at New Plymouth on Saturday that his chances look bright. Dorado if reserved would carry support. Prince Reno did not show his true form last week, and Note Issue would only have to leave the barrier well to be handy at the finish. Inveresk might do better than at New Plymouth. True Measure and Hard Times are possibilities. The public will probably support ONEWHETU z . NOTE ISSUE DORADO.
