WOMEN’S DIVISION

Fraser Road: The monthly meeting was held on Friday afternoon, Mrs. Galbraith presiding over a good attendance. A competition for shortbread was won by Miss G. Coleman. Mrs. Galbraith gave a resume of the business transacted at the South Taranaki executive meeting. A remit was passed asking the education board to arrange the May school holidays later than at present so that they would coincide with the period when the cows were dry and thus permit of parents taking their children away in the holidays. Mrs. L. A. Jennings gave a demonstration of the method of making Victorian posies. Mrs. H. Sanderson offered a prize for the best three asters. The hostesses were Mrs. Treweek and Miss Shaw.

Urenui: The monthly meeting was held in the Urenui hall on Monday afternoon. In the absence of the president, Mrs. J. F. Phillips, Mrs. R. G. Luxton presided over a large attendance. Mrs. C. J. Harris, provincial president, gave a very interesting address on the objects of the movement, and Mrs. Finlay spoke briefly about the Drama League. Afternoon tea was served by the members. Hunter Road: Mrs. Carder presided at the February meeting of the committee. A letter from Mr. I. J. Bridger, president of the South Taranaki Red Cross Society, regarding the appointment of a district Red Cross nurse for South Taranaki was left for further consideration. The president reported having filled two of four calls for lady helps. Members of the branch decided to donate books and magazines to start a library at Hunter Road It was decided to hold a flag five hundred afternoon next month.

Kapuni: The first meeting of the year was held last Wednesday, when there was a good attendance presided over by Mrs. Paterson. It was decided to hold a picnic at Opunake beach. Baby Andreoli was presented with a porridge plate and mug. Mrs. Lovell, Hawera, gave an address on the florists’ conference at Denver and a floral demonstration. A competition for the best arranged vase of flowers, judged by Mrs. Lovell, was won by Mrs. T. Collins, with Mrs. C. Paterson second. Mesdames T. Luscombe and J. Kissick were hostesses. Bell Block: The first meeting this year was well attended’, there being 19 members present. The president, Mrs. T. French, presided. Ratapiko-Manganui: The first meeting of the new year was held on February 1, when Mrs. Hucker presided over a good attendance. The branch was interested in a demonstration of brass work, and the making of sea-graSs stools by Mrs. Evans, Hawera. The division picnic was held in Mr. Shepherd’s bush on Saturday. An enjoyable day was spent, both young and old enjoying the swimming. A heavy shower about 3 o’clock brought the day to a hasty finish. Thanks were extended to Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd for the use of their property and for transporting weather-bound picnickers to their homes.
