HAS COME RIGHT
One of the most impressive wins at the New Plymouth racing carnival last week was that of Davistock in the Paul Memorial Handicap. The opposition included the Trentham and Ellerslie winners, Cherry King, and last year’s Taranaki Cup’ winner Carfex, but Davistock just “romped home” and was running away at the finish. This son of the noted Australian performer, David, is bred to hold his own in top class, and it appears as if, under trainer “Dick” Johnson’s care at New Plymouth, Davistock has developed the stamina necessary to make him capable of holding his own in class company. Fersen is rightly being hailed as something right out of the ordinary, but it is worth recalling that at New Plymouth at holiday-time, Davistock beat Fersen pointless.
