SHINING SILVER RING
Carded to make his initial New Zealand appearance of this season in the Publicans’ Handicap at Wingatui tomorrow is Silver Ring, winner of this year’s Epsom Handicap at Randwick, and last season almost invincible when racing in New Zealand. Silver Ring’s performances make him appear to be one of the most brilliant performers to grace ths New Zealand turf of recent seasons; Since returning from Australia he suffered a fall at Rlccarton, but his recent track work seems to suggest that he is just as good as ever. With 10.2 in the Publicans’ Handicap Silver Ring is weighted like a champion, but he appears much superior class to the opposition, even though it includes some of the best of the present Southern sprinters. One performer who may be capable of footing it with Silver Ring is Silver Streak, last season’s winner of the Stewards’ Handicap at Kiccarton and the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie. Silver Streak showed his best .form at the Dunedin fixture at holiday-time, and subsequently he ran good races at Trcntham.
