POVERTY BAY FIRST DAY GOOD HUNTING IN THE FLYING. SUNNY SONG WINS THE HURDLES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night The Poverty Bay Turf Club’s summer meeting opened to-day in most inauspicious weather. Last evening the heaviest downpour for many weeks was experienced, and heavy rain fell continuously to-day until the last race, when ' the downpour, temporarily ceased. The track was greasy and towards the end of the day the going was heavy. . The totalisator handled £2113 10s, compared with £2393 on the first day last year, a decrease of £279 10s. Hunting Jay was first to show out, and at the seven furlongs was leading Bothwell by a length, with Sunny Sky a' length and a half away. There was no change in the ord,er throughout, but in the concluding stages Sunny Sky fell further back. Bothwell put in a strong challenge' in the straight, but Hunting Jay finished ahead, with Sunny Sky lengths back. Time, Im. 451-ss. SUMMER HACK.
