HOLD-UP ATTEMPT
TAXI-DRIVER MEETS BARRICADE.
BOLD ACTION SAVES SITUATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, Last Night. A hold- up was attempted at 3.30 o’clock yesterday morning on a lonely road be«ide the Grey River, near Taylorville. A taxi driver, Mr. Leslie Hallinan was taking home a passenger when he noticed a dark object on the roadside, but he proceeded on his way. Upon returning, however, he met a barricade of timber and a stone weighing about 561 b. When he pulled up he heard footsteps approaching from behind. To try circumventing the obstacle would have precipitated the taxi into the river, so Mr. Hallinan accelerated and cleared the barricade with no more damage than a broken spring. '
A police search after daybreak failed to find any vestige of the barricade.
