EVENTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. CYCLING AND RUNNING RACES. The New Plymouth Cycle and Athletic League continued the series of cycling and running events at Western Park last night. Fields were fair and some good racing was witnessed. Results were:— Quarter-mile cycle handicap, A grade: L. Stevens (30) 1, L. Wood (10) 2, T. Hookham (20) 3; five started; won by one and a-half lengths, with half a length between second and third; time, 34 4-ss. Three-quarter mile cycle handicap, A grade: G. Stevens (74) 1, L. Stevens (70) 2, L. Wood (25) 3; five started; won by a length, with a similar distance between second and third; time, Im 50s. Quarter-mile cycle handicap, B grade: A. Warren (35) 1, R. Greenlees (20) 2, p/ Bond (10) 3; five started; won by three lengths, with half a length between second and third; time, 35 4-ss. Three-quarter mile cycle handicap, B grade: D. Bond (25) 1, W. Ireland (scr) 2, R. Greenlees (45) 3; five started; won by half a length, with the third rider a length away; time, 2m Is. 220 yards boys: S. Cox 1, D. Mavor 2, L. Miller 3. 75 yards open: C. Lehrke (8) 1, G. Tuffery (8) 2, G. Plucke (8) 3; four starters; won by one and a-half yards, with a touch between second and third. 440 yards open: C. Lehrke (45) 1, G. Plucke (45) 2, G. Tuffery (35) 3; four starters; won by two yards, with 10 yards between second and third; time, t>2 3-ss. Quarter-mile walk, boys: S. Cox 1, D. Cox 2, L. Hartley 3. One mile scratch cycle race, B grade (points allotted for the winner of each lap and for the final lap placings): D. Bond, 5% points, 1; W. Ireland, 2%, 2; R. Wood, 1,3; five started. Bond won the first and second laps comfortably, but Ireland came fast in the straight in the third lap to dead-heat with Bond and take the lead for the final lap. Ireland led into the straight but Bond finished gamely to win by a wheel. Wood was close up third. One and a-half mile scratch cycle, A grade (points allotted as in B event): L. Wood (5) 1, J. Foote (4) 2, H. Eva (2) 3; six started. J. Foote took the lead early and won the first three laps easily. Wood and Eva were up with him at “three to go’’ and the next two laps went to Wood. Over the final circuit Wood was not extended to beat Eva by one and a-half lengths, with I oote inches away third. Aggregate points were:— Runners: C. Lehrke, 12 points, G. Plucke, 7; G. Tuffery, 4; F. Freethy, 1. grade cycle handicap series. L. Stevens, 5; G. Stevens, 3; L. Wood, 3, T. Hookham, 1. • B grade cycle series: D. Bond, 4; R. Greenlees, 3; A. Warren, 3; W. Ireland, 2.
