FOUR DROWNED
NORTH ISLAND ACCIDENTS.
RIVER SWEEPS MAN OUT TO SEA. By Telegraph-Press Association. Whangarei, Jan. 19. A report from the east coast states that a Maori girl named, Dulcie Martin, aged four years, was drowned at Whangaruru yesterday afternoon. The child while playing with other juveniles fell from an anchored punt on the beach into shallow water. It is believed that she was carried out by the undertow. An intensive search for the body was unavailing. Another report from the far north states that Mary Overtonan, an Auckland girl, aged 12, was -drowned last evening at Mitimiti, on the west coast near Hokianga Harbour, when bathing in the surf with other children. The girl, who has not been seen since, was carried out to sea so quickly that attempts at rescue were impossible. The body of Robert Stewart, Banner, aged 68, who fell overboard from a yacht in Hokianga Harbour on Monday evening, was found yesterday near the scene of the tragedy. While bathing in the Waiapu River at Rangitukia yesterday afternoon a Maori, named Hauiti Poi, Tikitiki, a married man, aged 30, disappeared, says a Gisborne message. He was apparently seized with cramp. It is thought that the/body was washed out to sea.
