MAN’S SUICIDE

DEPRESSED STATE OF MIND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Taumarunui, Last Night. At the inquest this afternoon into the death of John O’Leary, aged 26, State Farm Road, Taihape, who was found dead in a room at Mr. Joseph Coogan s farm at Taringamotu on Monday afternoon, the coroner returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide while in a depressed state of mind. In evidence it was stated that deceased came from Taihape on January 10 to spend a short holiday at his uncle’s farm at Taringamotu. On Sunday last accompanied by Mr. Noel Coogan, his cousin, he visited New Plymouth by the excursion train. On returning to Taringamotu shortly before midday on Monday O’Leary was questioned, by. his aunt as to how he enjoyed the trip. His reply was to the effect that he did not enjoy it very much. . , O’Leary went into the sitting room ana commenced reading Tennyson s poems. Shortly afterwards, when Mrs. Coogan was preparing morning tea, she heard a noise and on investigating found O’Leary lying on the floor with his throat cut. Among O’Leary’s belongings, a letter addressed to Mrs. McSweeney was found. It was in O’Leary’s handwriting and asked where Eileen was and said he wanted to see her.
