Manutahi batsmen failed badly in their match with Whenuakura last week-end. In the first innings only one batsman reached double figures, C. Wills (19), and the whole team was dismissed for 35 runs. Manutahi in the second innings could only total 24 against the'' good bowling of Bourke and Signal, S. Denby (12) being the only double-figure scorer. Whenuakura’s total of 114 consisted mainly of a fine knock of 78 by S. Cousins, who hit ten fours and three sixes. Wickets for Whenuakura were taken by P. Bourke,.G. Signal and J. Hurley, and for Manutahi by C. Wills, W. Wills, J. Couch and A. Richards.
PAKEHAS PLAY MAORIS. MATCH AT OKAIAWA. The Okaiawa Maori cricket team was defeated by a pakeha team representing Okaiawa township during the week-end. The Maoris made 74 runs, D. Skipper (14) and P. Katene (21) being top-scorers. The pakehas compiled 88, the highest scorers being W. Johnston (23), P. Walters (23) and D. Wilmshurst (15).
