GERMAN IMPORTS

ADJUSTMENT OF EXCHANGES. UNITED KINGDOM TRANSACTION. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.0 p.m. Rugby, Jan. 6. The Anglo-German Payments Consultative Committee has agreed that, in view of the substantial issues in November and December of foreign exchange certificates in respect of the import of United Kingdom goods into Germany, the total issue for payments in January and February, 1935, may be restricted to 17,000,000 reichmarks (about £1,400,000) in each month. This is estimated to represent the 55 per cent, of the value of German exports to the United Kingdom for which provision was made in the agreement. The restriction will be brought into force only if it is justified to prevent foreign exchange required for the payment of imports from United Kingdom exceeding 55 per cent, of the allocation.
