FANCY DRESS BALL

BREAK-UP OF RATAPJKO SCHOOL QUEEN CROWNING CEREMONY. The Ratapiko hall presented an animated scene during the children’s fancy dress, ball held in connection with the school break-up ceremony. The manner in which the children pei-formed the dances reflected credit on the teachers, Mr. McClellan and Miss W. Fitzgerald. The school committee provided ice creams, fruit, etc. During the supper adjournment Mr. O. D. A Christmas cake competition conducted by the Women's Division was won by Mrs. Roy Clough (No. 66), Queen Carnival Crowning. A dance organised by the cricket and tennis clubs was held in the hall on Tuesday night. There was only a fair attendance owing to the unfavourable weather. A euchre tournament was conducted by Mr. Jack Lepper, the winners being Mrs. E. Karalus and Mr. Norman Downs. . The crowning of the queen carnival, which had been conducted by the tennis club, -was held. Mr. J. Lepper, president of the club, apologised for the absence of Mr. J. Gibbs, Mayor of Inglewood. Mr. Lepper asked the candidates to come forward -while Miss Veronica Karalus was crowned queen with a golden crown and Miss Margaret Telfer (runner-up) with a silver crown. Bouquets in the candidates’ colours, made by Miss Noel George, were presented to the queens by Masters Jim Dodunski and Jack Telfer. At Mr.. Lepper’s request cheers were given for the parents of the candidates who had helped in no small way to wipe out the debt on the tennis courts. . Miss Veronica Karalus wore a damty frock of lemon organdie trimmed with lemon satin ribbon. Miss Margaret Telfer’s frock was of pale pink crepe de chine, with pink pearl buttons and ruchings.’ Music for. the dance was played by Hooker’s orchestra. Messrs. D. Therkleson and G. Mrs. K. McClellan and Master Richard McClellan are spending the holidays with relatives at Featherston. Mrs. Mathew's and Miss A. Deacon, Auckland, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Wells, “Wainui,” for the holidays. Miss W. Fitzgerald is at Marton spending the school holidays with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hill and family motored from Opunake to spend the Christmas holidays with Miss.D. and Mr. Fred Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Plews, New Plymouth, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lepper, Mana. Road. Mr. and Mrs. G. Newton and family, Hamilton, were the guests of Mrs. Newton’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hall, for the holidays. Miss Vera Hall, Hamilton, is paying a visit to her parents at Ratapiko. Mr. Tuck, senr., has been visiting his daughters 'at Ratapiko," Mrs. Lepper and Mrs. Downs.

Mr. A. Lowney, Dunedin, has returned with Mr. McClellan to spend a short holiday in the Ratapiko district. Miss Dulcie Hill is spending part of the school holidays with relatives at Ratapiko. Mrs. W. Wickham and her small daughter, Joan, have returned from Toko, where' they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson. Miss Majorie Hucker and Master Raymond Karalus, who have been inmates of the' New Plymouth Hospital, have returned to their hornes. Miss A. Ferguson, Toko, is the guest of Mr. and ’ Mrs. W. Wickham, Makara Road. Mr. and Mrs. H. Telfer and family spent Christmas with relatives at New Plymouth. Mrs. R. Carter, Wellington,' was the guest of Mrs. F. Price during the: week. •
