OVERSEAS VISITORS

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES. AUCKLAND INCREASE IN 1934. An increase in overseas passenger traffic arriving at and sailing from Auckland is revealed by the figures for 1934. compared with those for the previous year. Arrivals at Auckland last year totalled 12,349, as against 10,316 for 1933, an increase of nearly 20 per cent., while departures for the year were 13,282, approximately 26 per cent, in excess of the previous year’s total of 10,511. During the year there was an excess of departures over arrivals of 933, whereas in 1933 departures exceeded arrivals by only 195. An incentive to travellers from New Zealand last year was provided by the Melbourne Centenary celebrations in October, and it is significant that during that month 1573 people left Auckland, compared with 722 in the corresponding month of 1933.
