STRATFORD RACES

GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED MEETING CONCLUDES TO-DAY. REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS. (By “Hurry On.’’) Though there has been heavy rain recently, the Stratford track promises to be in good order for the conclusion of the New Year meeting to-day. The sting will be out of the ground but the going is unlikely to be heavy. Nearly all the visiting horses have remained and the fields promise to be good. The programme will open with the 12.0— MAKURI HURDLES. Of £llO. One mile and a-half. Emancipation 11 2 Beau Star 9 6 Revision 11 0 Silver Division 9 0 Ythan 10 6 Colossal 9 0 St. Ames 10 4 Gowan lea. 9 0 Tnreha 10 2 Bay Sand 9 0 Emancipation is a class hurdler and he ran well enough in the Hack Cup at New Plymouth to draw attention to his chances in this event,, especially with the sting out of the ground. Revision would only have to fence better than she did on Tuesday to ensure herself a good Chance but she will probably find the improving Ythan hard to beat. He fenced splendidly on Tuesday. St. Ames will go well and Tareha will do better than he did the first day. Beau Star, Colossal and Bay Sand are possibilities, but the best supported may be EMANCIPATION, YTHAN, ST. AMES. 12.45— CARDIFF STAKES. Of £lOO. Six furlongs. Harbour Red Sand 8 0 Bridge « 7 Zionist 8 0 HusMa 8 .7 Fast Acre 8 0 ' Vansine 8 7 Ringside 8 0 Harbour Bridge has been disappointing on the circuit and Huskie makes more appeal. He finished really well at New Plymouth. Zionist and Red Sand were responsible for creditable efforts the first day and Fast Acre may stay on better with Broughton in the saddle. Ringside made a fine showing on the opening day at New Plymouth. The main fancies may be HUSKIE, RINGSIDE, FAST ACRE. 130 MALONE MEMORIAL. Of £220. Nine furlongs. Ago Khan 9 S Muaquil 7 12 Bugle Call 8 7 Korero < 12 Dalia Quex 8 2 Silk Sox 7 4 Fersen 8 2 Gold Gleam J 0 With different riding tactics Aga Khan mn be depended upon to improve on his cup running, though on the easy track he may experience difficulty in conceding weight to Bugle Call. Lalla Quex did not run on Tuesday but she can be depended upon for a solid effort and so can Fersen, who is improving with racing. Musquil might bring off a surprise. If Korero or Silk Sox are started they will command solid followings. The favourites may be BUGLE CALL, SILK SOX, FERSEN. 2,15 KAPONGA HACK HANDICAP. Of £llO. Six furlongs. Princess Star 8 13 jOnewhetu 7 TO Chief Phiakuo 7 0 Marionette 8 9 HarbourDancing Lafly 8 7 Bridge 7 0 Harvest Moon 8 4 Spender ■ 7 0 On Tuesday’s form Chief Marionette should again account for Princess Star but a fresh horse in Dancing Lady will carry solid support as she is a smart hack. This distance may trouble Harvest Moon but Onewhetu and Phiakuo can _ see it right out. . A repetition of his track form would place. Spender in the picture. Those to find favour should include

DANCING LADY, CHIEF MARIONETTE, . ONEWHETU. 3.0— TOKO HANDICAP. Of £l5O. About seven furlongs. Lucidus 9 9 Nigtitguard 7 6 The Tiger 8 9 Revision 7 6 Miladi 8 0 Merry Way 7 5 Diaga/UO 7 12 Moafcoa 7 4 Princess Star 7 IB Lucidus is unlikely to start and his defection will make this event very open. Even with his own rules out in front, the long straight may prove too much for The Tiger and on the first day’s form Miladi should account for Diagano. Nightguard and Revision may not be fancied but Merry Way and Moatoa will claim plenty of attention. The best supported may be MERRY WAY, MILADI, MOATOA. 3.45— . ELECTRIC JUVENILE. Of £llO. Five furlongs. Friesland 9 9 Daivet 7 10 Collodian 9 6 Zionist 7 7 Silver Wings 811 joy Box 7 6 Fast Acre 7 12 Grateful 7 0 Lowenberg 7 11 This should prove a great duel between Friesland and Collodian, both of whom displayed good form on Tuesday. Silver Wings should have benefited by her first day’s outing, while Fast Acre and Lowenberg can be depended upon for solid efforts. Zionist, Joy Box and Grateful should all be prominent, but the favourites may be FRIESLAND, COLLODIAN, LOWENBERG. 4.30— STRATFORD HACK PLATE. Of £2OO. Nine furlongs. Korero 9 1 All Spirit 8 1 Tahurangi 8 12 Tutor 7 5 Silk Sox 8 7 Royal Dance 7 1 Dark Marble 8 3 Maid of the St. Clara 8 2 Air 7 0 Though the field is not as large as last year, there is plenty of material in this event for a fine contest. Korero and Tahurangi will have a chance of fighting their Tuesday’s battle over again and, patiently ridden, the latter may reverse positions with his rival. If reserved, Silk Sox would be well fancied while Dark Marble has run well enough in the north to be entitled to respect. St. Clara has not yet struck form but Tutor is definitely on the up-grade. All Spirit ran one good race at New Plymouth and, being by Speardance, Royal Dance may stay on better than expected. In a good pool the public fancies may be

TAHURANGI, KORERO, SILK SOX. 5.15— COUNTY HACK HANDICAP. Of £l2O. About seven furlongs. Chief Tutor 7 8 ManOnette 8 9 Lebanon 7 0 All Spirit 8 3 Windsoreen 7 0 Glenrane 8 3 If started, Chief Marionette should have a splendid chance, as she will not be troubled by the seven furlong journey. All Spirit will probably be better suited in this race than in the Hack Plate, while Glenvane’s track work suggests that he will be prominent. Tutor was finishing on at the end of six fur-

longs on Tuesday. There should be good backing for : CHIEF MARIONETTE, GLENVANE, ALL SPIRIT. The Order Changed. There has been an alteration in the order of the races at Stratford. The Toko Handicap will be the fifth event and the Stratford Hack Plate the seventh. Breeder’s Congratulations. The Stratford Cup winner Fersen was purchased by Mrs. W. D. Graham from his breeder, Mr. Sol Green, the prominent Victorian sportsman. Yesterday Mrs. Graham received a cablegram from Mr. Green congratulating her on the success of her purchase. Riders for Stratford. W. J. Broughton will be riding Fersen, Glenvane and Fast Acre (twice) at Stratford to-day. G. Cameron, the successful Te Awamutu apprentice, who rode Prince Colossus and Sea Fox at Ellerslie on Wednesday, and the capable hurdle horseman J. H. Mcßae, will also be riding.
