MOVEMENTS OF OVERSEAS SHIPS. PORT CHALMERS DIVERTED. The Port Chalmers, which was to have berthed at New Plymouth on Monday, has been diverted to Napier and is not expected at New Plymouth until January 11. She will proceed to Wellington. \

OMANA’S ITINERARY. The Union Company’s steamer Omana was due at Auckland from Greymouth and Wellington yesterday. After discharge. the ship will be despatched for Westport, Melbourne and Adelaide. She is scheduled to load at Edithburg and Adelaide during the third week in January, completing loading at Melbourne for New - Plymouth, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin.

WAIWERA AT LONDON. Having completed her maiden voyage to New Zealand, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s new motor-ship Waiwera is reported to have reached London from Auckland on Tuesday. She was despatched from Auckland on November 30. She visited New Plymouth earlier in the month.

PORT HOBART LEAVES LONDON. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line motor-ship Port Hobart is reported to have cleared London on Sunday for Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth and Bluff. She is due at Auckland about February 3 and New Plymouth in the middle of February.

STEAMER DEVON’S NEW OWNERS. The steamer Devon, which has made many voyages to New Zealand, has been sold by the Federal Steam Navigation Company to the British India Steam Navigation Company. She is now en route from England to Australia under her new owners, her hull and funnels having been painted in conformity with the o*ther vessels of the British India Company. Under the Federal Line the Durham was a training ship for cadets, and she is still used as a training ship. She now carries 39 cadets. The ship s complement is almost entirely from, the British India Company’s cadet steamer Nterbudda, which is now laid up at Falmouth.

DURHAM’S FAST VOYAGE. A very fast passage from Cape More ton to Newcastle was recently made by the motor-ship Durham. She covered the distance between the two places in 22 hours at an average speed of 18.2 knots. It is probably one of the fastest passages made by a cargo vessel in Australia or New Zealand waters. The ship is on her maiden voyage, and is loading in Australia for England. The company ordered two new motor-ships, and the Durham’s sister-ship, the Dorset, left England recently on her maiden voyage to Australia. She is expected to be as fast a ship as the-Durham.
