GREAT SHOT’S SUCCESS CHERRY QUEEN; GRAND FINALE. NIGHTFORM WINS THE SUMMER.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The Southland summer race meeting concluded to-day in dull but fine weather. The attendance was large. The track was yielding. The totalisator handled £12,268 10s, against £10,402 on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £26,082 10s, against £21,040 10s last year. The results are:— GLADSTONE HIGHWEIGHT. Of £llO. One mile. 1- PALATINATE, 10.5 (Beale) 1 6-6—VALASKA, 9.5 (C. Brodie) 2 2- GOLDEN KING, 9.0 (Cooper) .. 3 Also started: 7-6 Honest Maid, 101, 4-2 Bowlands, 9.7; 8-8 Thornton, 9.7; 5-4 Johnny, 9.3; 9-7 Silver Issue, 9.1; 3-5 Academy, 9.0; 10-9 Orderwood 9.0. Valaska, Golden King and Palatinate made all the running and were in line. Palatinate cleared out to win easily by two and a-half lengths, with the third half a head away. Then came Thornton. Time, Im 45 5-Bs. MAKAREWA TROT. Of £l2O. One and a-half miles. 1- OZAN AM, 36 (Gallagher) 1 6- MOKO CHILD 2 3- VACATION, It (Maconnell) .... 3 Also started: 12-13 Bessie Freeman, 13-11 Bondi Chimes, 8-7 Chief Drusus and Silver Guy (coupled); 4-3 Chevalier, 7- Erinola, 14-14 Mishap, 9-9 Picotee, 2- Royal Drive, It; 11-12 Christina’s Wave, 5-4 Embark, 48; 10-5 Fairhaven, 48. Royal Drive, Chevalier and Vacation were early leaders. Then Royal Drive broke and dropped out. The field was bunched half a mile from home. A great race home saw Ozanam and Moko Child come from the rear, the former winning by a head, with Vacation a head away and Embark fourth. Times, 3m 32 4- 3m 325, 3m 36 l-ss.

SHORTS HANDICAP. Of £l5O. Six furlongs. 2- CHERRY QUEEN, 8.10 (Jenkins) 1 1-I—GUARANTEE, 8.10 (Mackie) .... 2 3- UNSEEN, 7.0 (Wilson) 3 Also started: 4-4 Mayam, 7.0; 5-5 Clara Bow, 7.0. Cherry Queen led early from Unseen and Clara Bow. Guarantee moved up at the straight, but Cherry Queen easily kept clear and won by two lengths, with Unseen a head away and Mayam fourth. Time, Im 14 3-ss. SUMMER HANDICAP. Of £llO. Daring Deed, Broken Rule and Madam Pompadour were early prominent. Then Bay Biddy joined in, and Nightform and Colossian were handy at the straight entrance. Great Shot left the field early to lead by four lengths into the back from Tauramai. Then Hunting Go joined in. The three leaders were in close order across the top, with Signaller next. Great Shot came on to win easly by three lengths, with Signaller a neck away and Aesculus fourth. Time, 2m 9 3-ss.

Also started: 6-6 Erin’s Chief, 4-4 Erin’s Star It and Sergeant Dallas 112 (coupled); 2-2 Bronze Wave 12 and Moun- - tain Jewel 36 (coupled); 7-5 Nellie Osborne, 24; 5-7 Lindrum, 72. Erin’s Star and Erin’s Chief led early from Bronze Wave and Happy Knight. There was little change in the order till approaching the straight, where All Sunshine raced to the front. Happy Knight came with a late run and just failed to catch All Sunshine. Vologda was a ; ; length away and then came Erin’s Chief. Times, 4m 35 3-ss, 4m 40 4-ss, 4m 41s. ROSEDALE HANDICAP. Of £llO. SYNAGOGUE FOR AUSTRALIA. SOLD BY WELLINGTON OWNER. Wellington, Last Night The three-year-old colt Synagogue, recently purchased by Mr. C. E. Robertson, Wellington, will not be returning to Trentham, as a passage has been booked for him on the Wanganella, leaving Auckland for Sydney on Saturday. Synagogue’s future racing will all te.done in Australia, as it is understood Mr. Robertson resold him to an Australian sportsman after his race in the Great Northern Derby.,

ashhurst racing club. NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-NIGHT. Nominations for all events for the Ashhurst Racing Club’s meeting on January 22 close with the secretary, Mr. J. A. McDonnell, Ashhurst, at 9 o’clock to-night. This meeting is always a popular one with Taranaki trainers, and horses from Taranaki have been very successful there. The programme, which is a particularly attractive one for a small club, is sure to attract attention in Taranaki. Broughton at Stratford. The capable lightweight horseman W. J. Broughton arrived at Stratford yesterday and will be riding on the second day of the Stratford Racing Club’s meeting to-morrow.
