ANTI-WAR CONFERENCE

NEW ZEALAND GATHERING DELEGATES FROM AUSTRALIA. WILL THEY BE ALLOWED TO LAND? SUBJECT NOT YET DISCUSSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 30. No consideration has yet been given by the authorities to the question of refusing delegates from Australia to the anti-war conference permission to land in New Zealand. Press cable messages from Australia published a few days ago reported that Senator Arthur Rae and Mr. W. Nugent had been appointed delegates to the New Zealand conference. They are to sail from Sydney to-day, and in view of the attitude adopted by the Commonwealth authorities toward a delegate from New Zealand to the Australian anti-war congress, it has been suggested that the New Zealand Government might act in the same way if delegates from Australia endeavour to land for a similar congress in the Dominion. Inquiries in official circles, however, show that so far no such action has been considered. The Attorney-General has power to prohibit the landing in New Zealand of persons deemed undesirable. When he is satisfied that any person is not permanently resident in New Zealand and is disaffected or disloyal, or of such a character that his presence in New Zealand would be injurious to the peace, order and good government of the Dominion,, and that such person is about to arrive or land in New Zealand from parts beyond the seas, the AttorneyGeneral may, by order signed by him, prohibit that person from landing in New Zealand.
