WHEAT NOT PAYING
AUSTRALIAN PROTECTION PLAN. GUARANTEED PRICE AND BOUNTY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Canberra, Nov. 29. A local commission which recently inquired into the wheat industry in Australia submitted a report which states that wheat-growing since 1930 has been unprofitable and the serious financial position warrants the application of a home consumption price for that part of the wheat consumed within the Commonwealth. The commission recommends that the Government should provide financial assistance by means of an excise duty on flour, together with a contribution by the Commonwealth. The amount of assistance necessary will be £4,000,000, which will be distributed In the form of a bounty.
