KORU-KIRIHAU BAZAAR

GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. A successful church bazaar was held in the Koru hall on Wednesday. Owing to the unavoidable absence of Canon C. H. Newbould the bazaar was opened by Mr. H. J. Keys, who congratulated the members of the committee upon their display. Those in charge of stalls were Mesdames H. Watson and F. MacGregor (produce), Mrs. W. W. Maskelyne and Miss K. Looney (fancy goods), Mrs. J. Blakely and Miss. C. Yeates (drapery), Mesdames H. J. Green, H. Looney, H. J. Keys, Misses R. Green and J. Yeates (afternoon tea). Misses M. Blakely and M. Looney (ice cream). Assisted by a number of school children, the adult visitors quickly cleared the stalls, and the secretary, Mrs. J. Blakely, was able to announce that church funds should benefit to the extent of about £lO. Winners of competitions were Mesdames J. Payne (10s trophy), S. Jury (cake donated by Mrs. Taylor), and H. Watson (jumper donated by Mrs. Ward). The Koru school was visited on Wednesday by Messrs. Mackay, Salway and Olson in connection with the calf-rearing competitions. Four competitors paraded their calves before the judges and were congratulated on the appearance and handling of their entries. The Koru School Committee met on Monday, when there were present: Messrs. J. M. Sharpe. L. M. Grey. J. Payne and W. W. Maskelyne. The secretary reported that arrangements had been completed for Koru children to attend the New Plymouth dental clinic. Shrubs had been procured and planted

in the school grounds. Sports material is to be procured immediately, and arrangements have been made for a school concert at the end of the year. Mr..J. M. Sharpe will be forced to relinquish membership of the committee soon, and members made eulogistic references to Mr. Sharpe’s enthusiastic service for a long period of years, during the greater part of which he has acted as secretary. A recent visitor to the school was Mr. R. Gredig, the Taranaki Automobile Association's patrol officer, who gave the children an address upon the subject “Safety First.” Mr. and Mrs. Weir, until recently residents of Kirihau, are occupying the farm vacated by Mr. and Mrs. H. Ward, who now reside at Omata. It is feared that Mr. Harten will be in the New Plymouth hospital for some time, his condition causing his friends much anxiety. _ . Mrs. R. G. Gruebner, Taumarunuh is the guest of her sister, Mrs. H. J. Keys. At its recent meeting the Koru School Committee granted to the Y.M.C.A. permission to use the school grounds and buildings during the summer holidays. Messrs. Legerwood and Lucas have inspected the camp site. It is expected that about forty boys will be in camp for four weeks. Cricket enthusiasts are making every endeavour to place a Koru team in the field. They hope to arrange friendly games with Hurford Road and Omata. The recent spell of fine weather has

resulted in a great increase in the number of visitors to the Koru pa.
