FEUDING RACES TO-DAY

GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED PROSPECTS IN CUP CONTEST. AGA KHAN AND PLATEAU.

(By

"Hurry On.")

S£>lehdid fields are ehgagfed in all events at Feildifig to-day, and the racing promises to be interesting. Though not perhaps as numerous as usual, the Taranaki contingent is a strong one that should prove capable of making its presence felt. The programme will open at 12 o ciocx with the

WAITUNA HACK HURDLES. Of' £lOO. About 11 miles and 130 yards.

Blacksmith is a solid sort who has been working well, but he _ ma Y the more seasoned and improving Manawatu to 6 good. Chile is prdmising and the distance will be to his liking as he stays well. Jayson may need the race but Cotsfield made a fair showing at Levin. If he jumps decently King Thomond would have a chance; Of those on the minimum Sandy and the Hawera pair, Benedictine and Richf£d" make most appeal. Betting may take a wide range but good support should come for Chile, Manawatu and Sandy Dix.

12.40— AORANGI TRIAL PLA™. Of £BO. Six furlongs. Weight 8.8. »&■“ C'vnola ' -Dvy Kentucky Song wlrf X a “-' U 9 State Bank rnSssal U Tupuranci Colossal This event is very open. Sporting Song and Dawn Princess have galloped well on the tracks but have let their supporters down with the colours up. Aussie Ra will have his first win this season. He looks well and has been working in good style. Kentucky Song and Saxopy have been placed, while the unlucky COlossal’s turn must come sometime. Leith is promising and Onewhetu s great trial at Hawera draws attention to his chances. The best backed may be Onewhetu, Aussie Ra and Leith. 1.22FEILDING CUr. Of £2OO. One mile and a-quarter.

Sunny Sky holds pride of place, but with 9.0 to carry on a fiery track she has a stiff task in front of her. Arikira has to be taken on trust. He can gallop when in the mood but those moods are few and far between. Plateau usually races well on this track. He has been improving steadily lately. Aga Khan ran two clinking good races at Te Rapa. A repetition of this form will see the Hawera horsb handy at the finish. True Shaft has not shown any recent form, but Red Rufus ran fairly well at Sydney. The distance may prove too far for Passion Fruit. Rust is entitled to respect. She looked an improved filly at Wanganui and has gone the right way since then. Eminent showed a return to form at Levin and at his best is decidedly useful. Cuddle and Stitch have other engagements and may not start. The event is open but the favourites may be Aga Khan, Plateau and Eminent. 2.4-

FLYING HANDICAP. Of £l3O. Six furlongs.

Souchong has a solid weight but he is a great beginner and has a fine record on this course. Inflation may be in need of a race and the distance will prove too short for Grand Jury. Royal Routine seems to have lost all form. The Tiger and Porotiti are a speedy pair who will see that there is no loafing on the journey. Hunting Lodge will be tackling open company but she should make the grade. If Burnish has improved at all during the last month she would have a chaiice with 7.13. Bodyline docs not appeal and the best of the lightweights may prove to be Navaho. The main fancies may be Hunting Lodge, Souchong and The Tiger.

2.46FEILDING JUVENILE STAKES. Of £125. Five furlongs.

This seems likely to be a dual between Severe and Pakanui. Severe lias been carrying out her tasks in great style at Awapuni, but in Hawke’s Bay they have a big opinion of Pakanui. Little is known of the others. Going Gay has shown pace on the tracks and Sergia created a favourable .impression at Wanganui. However backers are not likely to look past Severe and pakanui.

3 28 KOWHAI HACK HANDICAP. Of £lOO. One mile and a distance. Minimum weight 7.7.

This is a big field and a horse will require to begin smartly to have a winning chance. Cuddle has her full share of weight, and Cherry King, a winner at Trentham, makes more appeal. He should hold Blue Boy safe. Davistock should be fancied. He won two solid races at Trentham and is a fit horse at present. Boudoir will be preferred to Blackman She ran a very good race into second place behind Eminent at Levin. Lord Moutoa lias been galloping well enough to have prospects. Lady Wessex appears the best of those on the minimum. Those to find favour should include Cherry King, Davistock and Boudoir.

4.10FITZROY HACK HANDICAP. Of £lOO. Six furlongs.

There is nothing really outstanding here. All Spirit is consistent, while Canopy ran a good race on the final daj’ at Ellerslie last month. Palm has been responsible for some attractive track work lately and is expected to make a bold showing. Land Tax was in the picture at Levin but may find difficulty in conceding weight to Merry Way. who is very well at present. Silk Sox is a pos-

sibility. as is Boon, who would only have to strike his last season's form to be prominent with 7.8. Jubilee Song and Flamingo may prove the best of the others. The race bears an open appearance but good support should be forthcoming for Palm, Merry Way and Candpy. 4.52— KIWITEA HANDICAP. Of £ll5. Seven furlongs. ■Poma » 8 Copper King 3 8 Fam** 9 6 Aiguille 8 1 Swwy Sky !» 8 Peschiera. .11 Singiiint KiAg 8 10 Pomp has a good record on this course and usually performs best under welter weights. Farmer invariably races well when fresh and this is his pet distance. If reserved Sunny Sky would command a following, but the best of the handicap is Sanguine King. He has won three successive races and may make it four. The other three, Copper King, Aiguille and Peschiera, have no recent form. 'Die issue may be fought out by Sanguine King, Pomp and Farmer.
