WRITTEN ARGUMENT

BULKY TRANSPORT SUBMISSIONS. THROUGH SERVICE APPLICATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 28. The No. 2. Transport Licensing Authority has to make an important decision concerning the licensing of longdistance goods services, but before it can reach its decision members must do some hard reading. When the authority visited various districts in its area decisions were made in all local cases, but through service applications were deferred to enable final submissions to be made in writing. This morning when the authority met the chairman stated that it would take more than a day to read all tile written submissions, and therefore he adjourned the sittings.

One of the applicants asked if- they could add to the submissions, but the chairman declined to allow it. He said the authority having heard the evidence could have made its decision, but as the question of renewing or refusing licences was of grave importance to operators it had been decided to allow them to make final submission.

Seventeen operators sought renewals of licences, and objections were offered by the Railways Board, four county councils, the Thames and Hamilton Carriers’ Association, the Thames Harbour Board and the Northern Steamship Company.
