WOMAN AGED 98 SUED
CLAIM FOR RENT MADE. Mrs. J. Thorn, of South Yarra, near Melbourne, who is 98 years old, appeared in the Hawthorn Court recently to answer a claim against her for £3 4s rent alleged to be due. The magistrade commented on Mrs. Thorn’s age and suggested that a settlement should be reached.
Mrs. Thorn, who appeared to experience considerable difficulty in hearing, contended that she did not owe the money. The defendant, the magistrate said, was almost a centenarian and could not be expected to defend the case. The parties agreed to confer, and later it was announced that an agrement had been reached.
