MARINA’S BRIDAL ROBE

MODERN GOWN DESIGN VEIL OF ANTIQUE LACE. The spirit of the old and the new will be mingled in the bi’idal dress oi Princess Marina. The gown will be streamlined, based on the sweeping lines of the modern motor-car. The design was evolved to symbolise this age of speed. White brocade, with English roses woven in silver, extends unbrokenly from the shoulders to the small train. The waist-line is eliminated because it would interrupt the curve. The long sleeves will be 1 more of the moyen-age than the tight-fitting type. The Court train will be of the same fabric, 15 feet long from the shoulders and 10 feet wide at the end. It has not been decided whether the end will be carried, or sweep the nave, as modern brides prefer. It will be lined with silver lame woven in Lyons. The shoes will match the gown. Princess Marina will wear the veil of antique lace which belongs to her family and which was worn by her mother, Princess Nicolas of Greece, and her sister;

Princess Olga, at their weddings. A diamond tiara will crown her head, and she is expected to carry Madonna lilies. The bridesmaids will wear white crepe woven with a delicate silver thread to make a perfect background for the brilliant silver bridal gown. Head-dresses are to be worn by the bridesmaids, but the character of these has not yet been disclosed. Some of the gowns will be. made in Paris and some in London. It is said that Princess Marina’s selection of new clothes will be the smallest a Royal bride has collected in, recent years, and that heavy customs duties would be payable in England on that part of the trousseau made in Paris. It was reported that she had chosen two morning dresses, seven afternoon dresses and seven evening gowns.

“Fashions change so suddenly; I do not want to buy too many clothes,” said the Princess to her dressmakers on more than .one occasion.

It is expected that the eight bridesmaids will include the following:—

Princess Ingrid of Sweden. Princess Juliana of the Netherlands. Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince George of Greece and cousin of King George of Greece. Princess Catherine, sister of. King George of Greece and daughter of King Constantine. Princess Kyra, daughter of Grand Duke Cyril of Russia. ■■■*
