It is hoped in this way to attract greater public interest in athletics by making the time more convenient for townspeople. Black Reappears. S. A. Black made his reappearance in the 100 yards and, though it was his first effort this season, he demonstrated that he has lost none of his pace. Starting from the Syd mark he gathered the field in about 30 yards from home and Won going away by three yards. His time, 10 seconds, was really good for this period of the year. He did not start in the final, which produced a splendid finish between Coombes, Hains and Pankhurst, the former winning by inches. J. Kinsella ran a splendid race in his heat and should not be long in coming back to his best. The High School boy Ekdahl also performed well while Hains continues to be consistency, itself.

Good Half Milers. The New Plymouth distance runners are evidently getting down to training in earnest as the half mile produced a splendid race. With a lap to go the Chances of the two back markers Hodgson and Grant did not look rosy, as White and Richards were still well in front and going strongly. Grant was the first to make a move but Hodgson never let him get far away. Grant headed the leader 50 yards from home and then was challenged by Hodgson. In a great finish the latter won by inches with Richards and White right up. Hodgson is running better and with more judgment than he has ever done previously and might with advantage contest a 440 yards later on. Grant, however, was responsible for a Splendid effort for a school boy. L. Richards scored a comfortable win in the mile and a half event. His training with the harriers during the winter stood him in good stead. Gruszning and Wilson, who both ran solid races, will do better later on. Improved Woman Runner.

■ Miss D. Hodgson has improved out of all recognition this season and scored yet another win in the womens 100 yards. From the seven yards m'ark she ran the distance in 12 seconds, a really good effort. Miss N.
