SCHOOL CALVES

EASTERN ENTRIES JUDGED. • HUIAKAMA’S INITIAL ENTRY. Huiakama school entered calves in the children’s calf-rearing competition for the first time this year and with those at Huinga, Toko, Douglas and Tututawa they were judged yesterday. The judges were Messrs. E. McCullough, Stratford (dairy condition), W. R. Butler, Hawera (dairy type)i and R. Syme, • Education Department, Hawera (charts). The entry of 11 calves at Huiakama in the first year the school had competed was favourably remarked by the judges, who were pleased with the quality of the entries. Much interest was taken in the judging by the children and over 30 adults. The best conditioned calves were .at Toko. Huiroa school had two entries, but they will be judged with the group calves at Douglas on December 6 at' 1 p.m. Details of yesterday’s results a¥e:— HUINGA.

Jemison, who has been in the New Plymouth-hospital some weeks, was operated on last week and is progressing favourably. Mr. Leo Davis, Rugby Road, has returned to his home from the New Plymouth Hospital. Word has been received of the transfer to New Plymouth of Mr. J. Brunsell, former stationmaster at Tariki. In the course of his duties at the Tariky factory yesterday Mr. W. Jakes severed the top of a finger. Word has been received of the trans- ' fer of Mrs. Evans, head teacher at Tariki, to Norfolk Road.
