LICENSES SUSPENDED
TASMAN FLIGHT SEQUEL ACTION AGAINST • FLIERS BREACH OF LAW ALLEGED WHITEHEAD AND NICHOLL By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Advice that action was being taken for a breach of the civil aviationregulations and that in the meantime their pilots’ licenses had been suspended, has been received by the two young airmen, Messrs. C. G. Whitehead, Wellington, and E. R. Nichol!, Sydney, who flew from Australia to New Zealand last week in a machine for which the certificate of airworthiness had been cancelled by the Australian authorities.
The fliers, who left for Wellington by train to-night, expect to return to Auckland by the week-end. Mr. Whitehead said he had no details of the action to be taken against him and his partner. They hoped, however, that any action would eventuate in the near future so that the matter cOuld be cleared up. They were taxibus to get their licences back and also.to obtain a certificate for their machine. At present they were unable to fly and they wished to accept invitations to appear at various centres Where displays were to be held. Already they had had to cancel arrangements to fly to Te Aroha, but they were hopeful the Whole matter Would be cleared up before the week-end, fed that they could Use their machine bn Saturday. The Faith in New Zealtad was still at the Mangere aerodrome. Mr. Whitehead added that the longrange fuel tank, installed Specially for the Tasman flight, had been removed. The monoplane Was now in the standard form. They had applied for a certificate of airworthiness for it tad it had been inspected by Flight-Lietitentat Wallingford. It was nbt yet known whether or nbt the certificate would be granted but they were hopeful of obtaining it shortly, particularly ih View bf the fact that the craft had been given a Certificate in Australia quite recently. The plane had lost it only because it was to be used on the long Ocean flight tad nbt on account of any defect in it.
