VICAR FAREWELLED

PRESENTATION AT NORMANBY. TRIBUTE TO REV. H. W. JAMES. After tire afternoon service on Sunday the parishioners of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Normanby, farewelled the vicar, the Rev. H. Whitby James, who will leave shortly for England. In asking Mr. James to accept an illustrated copy of “Reminiscences of New Zealand” and a collection of small articles made of inlaid New Zealand woods, Miss Mavis Gibson expressed regret at his departure. They hoped that the gifts would serve to remind him of their happy association, and that when he returned to his old home he would remember the parishioners as they would remember him. She wished Mr. and Mrs. James and their sons God speed and expressed the hope that the voyage would restore them to perfect health. In reply, Mr. James said he was deeply touched by the expressions of good-will and the gifts which would always be cherished for their own sakes as well as for the kind thoughts which prompted the giving. Both he and Mrs. James were taking home writing desks made of New Zealand woods. They would certainly be expected to be veritable mines of information about New Zealand so that the gifts were singularly appropriate. He urged parishioners to continue to support their church in the. future as in the past and to give to the incoming, clergy a full measure of loyalty and friendship. Afternoon tea was served by the women’s social committee. METHODIST GARDEN PARTY. SUCCESSFUL EVENT AT MANAIA.
