TAUMARUNUI SHOP BROKEN INTO.
PROPRIETOR ASLEEP ON PREMISES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Taumarunui, Last Night.
Some time on Saturday night or early yesterday morning a burglary was committed at the confectionery shop of Mr. W. J. Blackman in the main street, when over £2OO in silver and notes was stolen. Mr. Blackman had the money hidden in a tin box under the counter of the shop and he was sleeping in the livingroom upstairs when the burglary was committed.
It is believed that entrance was made by forcing a window at the rear of the premises. Several cheques were left on the floor near where the money was kept and the sum of £2ll 5s was removed by the burglar. The money included £lB7 in notes, £23 in silver and a cheque for £1 ss. The police have the matter in hand.
