KAIMATA DISTRICT NEWS

HEAD TEACHER TO LEAVE. Miss V. L. Mullon, Junction Road, was a week-end visitor to New Plymouth. Mrs. T. Burckett, Kaimata South Road, is confined to bed with a very severe attack of influenza. Miss June Parker, Kohete Road, who contracted scarlet fever after an operation for appendicitis, is progressing satisfactorily. The Kaimata school attendances last week were less than half the roll number, due to the epidemic of measles. The outbreak is now on the wane and from now onwards those affected will be returning to school. Mr. I. V. Buchanan, head teacher at Kaimata for the past three years, has received notice of his appointment as head teacher of the Tariki school. Mr. Buchanan will take up his duties at Tariki in the new year.

Word has been received from the Taranaki Education Board that Mr. W. J. Metcalf, head teacher at the Tikorangi school, has been appointed to succeed Mr. I. V. Buchanan at Kaimata. The Kaimata cricket team drew with Ratapiko in the match played during the week-end. Ratapiko made 115 and declared. At the drawing of stumps Kaimata had made 75 runs and had three wickets in hand. For Kaimata W. McCaw was the top scorer with 42 not out.
