i By Telegraph—Press Association. ‘ Wellington, Nov. 26.

The non-payment through a misunderstanding of the entrance fee of 5s for the Empire returned soldiers’ tournament at Melbourne cost A. J. Shaw, the New Zealand open champion, the first prize and a bronze trophy valued at £5O. Shaw, who arrived back to-day, said that 540 returned soldiers from all parts of the Empire took part.
