HARD LUCK OF SHAW
PRIZE LOST ON TECHNICALITY.
RETURNED MEN’S GOLF EVENT.
i By Telegraph—Press Association. ‘ Wellington, Nov. 26.
The non-payment through a misunderstanding of the entrance fee of 5s for the Empire returned soldiers’ tournament at Melbourne cost A. J. Shaw, the New Zealand open champion, the first prize and a bronze trophy valued at £5O. Shaw, who arrived back to-day, said that 540 returned soldiers from all parts of the Empire took part. His disqualification surprised him, as he believed his entry was in order, but he had no complaint to make. He said the American golfers were disappointing as stylists, but their play was always effective. He gained a good deal of valuable experience from his trip to Melbourne.
