GOVERNOR PRAISED
SCHOOLBOY PAYS TRIBUTE.
LORD BLEDISLOE’S THANKS.
A tribute to the Governor-General on the part of a Nelson College boy was mentioned by the principal of the school, Mr. H. V. Searle, on the occasion of Lord Bledisloe’s visit to the college this week.
“At this college,” said Mr. Searle, “we have an annual competition ■ for the Bamicoat Essay Prize. The subject of the essay is, ‘The man or woman, in the whole world, whom the writer considers to have made the best use of his or her life during the past 12 months.’ The subject chosen by one of the boys this year was ‘Lord Bledisloe.’ I do not think that any greater tribute could be paid by a schoolboy.” Lord Bledisloe, in his reply, referred to the boy who had shown such a limited knowledge of the great men of the world as to select the speaker as the object of his kindly literary tribute. He said he could only thank him for his confidence, knowing that as the. boy grew older he would find many more fitting to be given such praise.
